Site history/background

Lasalle Park is located in Buffalo at Lake Erie and the mouth of the Niagara River. Lasalle Park parallels the waterfront, the breakwall and the Buffalo Harbor. As such, water birds are its specialty. A variety of ducks are present within and outside the breakwalls when boaters are not present on the summertime waters. Summer and Fall may produce terns on the breakwalls. In winter, check the gulls for Iceland and Glaucous Gulls. Occasionally, a Snowy Owl might make a winter stay residing on one of the breakwalls. In season, check for shorebirds on the close breakwall, especially Ruddy Turnstones.

Noteworthy Records

In 1950, a female Smew was recorded in the Buffalo Harbor. On Jul 10, 1992, the third upstate NY record of Brown Pelican was recorded here.
