Western New York Birding Site Guide

By County

In the context of this web site, Western New York includes all the areas west of the larger Finger Lakes. Major geographic features that affect birding include Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, the Niagara River, the Genesee River Valley and the western portions of parts of the Allegany plateau. The clickable, interactive map is under construction.

There are really three dimensions which make up a complete bird-finding guide: locations, birds, and time of the year. Most printed bird-finding guides focus on the locations. The Birding Western New York's primary focus is the locations dimension as well. Sites are described below, but specifics on where to find local birds and the site recommendations to the Rochester and Buffalo area at a certain time of year are available as well. The more popular sites are denoted with a below.
