Rung Nern
I'm putting to paper the story of the refugee who came to this country as one of
the boat people common in the 1970's and 1980's. I purchased a car from
one of these individuals after he had been processed through immigration and
had lived in this country for a while. The name on the car title was Rung Nem. I
inquired of the man the ethnicity of the name and he stated the information
immigration had listed was not correct. When they asked his name, he stated
that they had the wrong name that immigration translated to Rung Nem. He
kept saying wrong name with the southeast Asian accented pidgin English,
which phonetically sounds exactly like Rung Nem.
That's what in a name.
